Doctors have warned that hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, including gestational hypertension, preeclampsia and eclampsia, continue to pose serious health risks for both mothers and babies worldwide. According to global estimates, these conditions affect nearly 5-10 percent of pregnancies and are among the leading causes of maternal and newborn illness and mortality. Experts said rising obesity, diabetes, stress and delayed pregnancies are contributing to the growing number of cases.
Medical experts stressed that regular antenatal check-ups, blood pressure monitoring and timely diagnosis are critical to preventing severe complications such as seizures, stroke, kidney injury, premature birth and fetal growth restriction. Symptoms including severe headache, swelling, blurred vision, abdominal pain and reduced fetal movement should not be ignored. Doctors also highlighted that women with obesity, diabetes, kidney disease or previous pregnancy-related hypertension are at higher risk and require closer monitoring throughout pregnancy.
