India is reportedly considering selling its stake in Iran’s Chabahar Port, according to national media reports. The port has been developed by India as a key trade route to Central Asian countries and Russia. The move comes amid uncertainty over US sanctions relief, which had previously allowed India limited exemptions for operations linked to Iran.
Reports suggest that India is evaluating multiple options, including transferring port operations temporarily to an Iranian operator. Under this proposal, India could resume full control once sanction related restrictions ease. The Chabahar Port project, in which India has invested around 120 million dollars, is also crucial for providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. However, the Indian government has not yet officially responded to these reports.
