Telugu film producers are known for paying high remunerations, which is why they are often compared to a reserve bank. Earlier, such big payments were rare in other South Indian film industries. However, after the rise of pan-India cinema, Kannada and Tamil producers also started offering huge fees to popular actors. At present, the Tamil industry itself is facing a shortage of producers willing to invest big amounts.
Even in Telugu cinema, the limited number of active producers are now being very careful. They are choosing projects only after checking strong combinations and whether the film can recover its investment. In Telugu cinema, only four or five heroes touch the Rs 100 crore remuneration mark, while in Tamil cinema, stars like Vijay and Ajith have already reached that level.
The Kannada industry usually does not see such massive remunerations. But after the blockbuster success of Kantara, actor Rishab Shetty is reportedly demanding around Rs 80 crore per film. There is also talk that he is asking for up to Rs 100 crore for new scripts. Currently, he has approved two Telugu projects, one with Mythri Movie Makers and another with Sithara Entertainments. Reports suggest that he is receiving Rs 80 crore for each of these films. The pan-India success of Kantara is said to be the main reason behind his increased market value and strong demand.
