Youth Must Take Up Leadership Responsibilities: Nirmala Sitharaman

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has urged Gen Z and Gen Alpha to take greater responsibility for India’s future and focus on what they can contribute to the country. Addressing the 36th convocation of Dr M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute in Chennai, she said young people should ask themselves what they can do for India rather than focusing only on what the country has done for them. She also called on graduates to take up leadership roles and fulfil their civic responsibilities.

Sitharaman stressed that a secure and strong country is essential for its citizens and highlighted the importance of youth participation in national responsibility and nation-building. Referring to global conflicts and uncertainties, she said young Indians should remain aware of developments around them and understand their role in strengthening the country. She also advised graduates to remain humble and approach challenges with patience and a sense of responsibility.
