Women’s Safety Is a Key Responsibility of the Government - MP Priyanka Gandhi

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has expressed concern over the alleged harassment of two minor students in Bihar’s Jamui. She said ensuring the safety of women and girls in public spaces should be a basic priority for governments. She also questioned the relevance of discussing major government schemes if women cannot feel safe in public places.

The incident reportedly took place on September 19 when two minor students returning from coaching were allegedly stopped and harassed by a group. Police registered a case, including provisions under the POCSO Act, and began an investigation. Three suspects were initially arrested, while two more alleged main accused were subsequently taken into custody, taking the total number of arrests to five, according to recent reports. The incident has also led to a political exchange between the opposition and NDA leaders in Bihar over women’s safety and the police response.
