The long-delayed wedding of 33 year old Liudmyla and 43 year old Ukrainian soldier Leonid finally took place in Kyiv despite the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The couple had postponed their marriage several times because of the conflict. On the night before their wedding, Liudmyla carefully ironed her embroidered wedding dress before going to sleep. However, Russian forces attacked a warehouse opposite their apartment that night, severely damaging their building and turning their home into a scene of destruction. The couple had to retrieve their wedding clothes from the rubble.
After leaving the apartment because it was no longer habitable, the couple faced another attack. Despite hearing air-raid sirens and bomb blasts outside, Liudmyla and Leonid decided that they would not postpone their wedding again. They reached a registry office in Kyiv at 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday, where an official registered their marriage. “We survived, so a new life has begun,” Liudmyla said, expressing her happiness.
