A US court has struck down former President Donald Trump’s $100,000 fee on H-1B visas for foreign professionals. The Boston federal court ruled that the decision was unlawful. US District Judge Leo Sorokin stated that the fee was effectively a tax, which cannot be imposed without approval from the US Congress.
The Trump administration had introduced the fee in September for selected H-1B visa applicants. The decision was challenged by attorneys general from 20 states in the Boston court. After reviewing the case, the court declared the fee illegal, stating that the president cannot impose such a tax without congressional approval.
