US President Donald Trump has called on countries benefiting from American security efforts in the Strait of Hormuz to reimburse the United States for the expenses involved. Trump said the US is providing security for ships travelling through the strategically important waterway without receiving assistance from other countries. He argued that several nations benefit from these efforts and should compensate the US after the war ends.
Meanwhile, Trump indicated that there could be scope for diplomatic talks with Iran. He said Tehran is looking to reach an agreement quickly and that the US is also open to negotiations, while making it clear that the final decision would rest with Washington. Trump also said energy prices could fall significantly after the war with Iran comes to an end.
