Telangana Drafts New Policy for App-Based Transport Services

The Telangana government has begun work on a comprehensive Motor Vehicle Aggregator Policy to establish a modern regulatory framework for app-based transport services. Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said a special committee was constituted to prepare the policy and has already held extensive consultations with aggregator companies, drivers, vehicle owners, passenger representatives, transport operators, technology experts and government departments to gather their suggestions.

The proposed policy aims to improve passenger safety, driver welfare, vehicle fitness, permits, insurance compliance, digital monitoring, transparent fare mechanisms, grievance redressal, women's safety, inter-departmental data integration and the promotion of electric and eco-friendly vehicles. The committee is now finalising its recommendations, after which the government will review the report and move forward with implementing a transparent, technology-driven and comprehensive policy for aggregator-based transport services in Telangana.
