AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticised the Modi-led Central government, alleging that it had discontinued the Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Merit-cum-Means scholarship schemes for Muslim students for the past four years. He said the Majlis Charity had provided financial assistance worth Rs. 10.50 crore over the last 21 years and distributed Rs. 86 lakh to students this year. Owaisi alleged that the Centre’s policies were contributing to an increase in dropout rates among Muslim students.
Citing UDISE data, Owaisi said the dropout rate among Muslim students stood at 8% at the primary level, 6% at the secondary level and 4% in higher education. Meanwhile, he paid the examination fees of 1,700 students studying in Urdu-medium schools in Class 10 through Majlis Charity. On Thursday, he handed over the cheque for the examination fees to school headmasters at Darussalam.
