Tamil Nadu’s net borrowing declined by 19.04% year on year to around Rs 30,021 crore in August 2026, Finance Minister N Marie Wilson said. He attributed the decline to increased revenue mobilisation and measures taken to plug leakages. The state’s own tax revenue rose 13% to around Rs 1,09,104 crore, while total revenue receipts increased 8.6% to Rs 1,17,790 crore during the same period.
Wilson said the government would disclose revenue and borrowing figures every month to ensure transparency. He also stressed the importance of attracting investments, stating that even an investment of Rs 1 is significant. He said the government was focusing on strengthening revenue mobilisation while reducing its borrowing.
