India has taken another significant step towards strengthening its indigenous defence capabilities. Private defence firm Nibe Limited successfully conducted the test of its long-range rocket system Suryastra at the Chandipur Test Range. Two variants of the Suryastra rocket, capable of striking targets at a range of 150–300 km, were tested. Officials confirmed that the system achieved a high level of precision, hitting targets within 1.5 to 2 meters. Reports suggest that the Indian Army is showing interest in procuring this advanced system.
Suryastra is a long-range guided rocket artillery system designed to carry out precise strikes on enemy infrastructure such as bases, command centres, radar stations, and logistics hubs. Unlike conventional artillery shells, these deep strike guided rockets use advanced navigation and control systems to accurately hit distant targets. The system is expected to be inducted into India’s arsenal soon. The development reflects growing efforts by domestic firms to reduce dependence on imported missile systems and aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which is encouraging private sector participation in defence manufacturing.
