Supreme Court Upholds AP High Court Verdict

The Supreme Court has delivered a significant ruling on religious conversion and Scheduled Caste (SC) status. It clarified that individuals who convert from Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism to other religions will lose their SC status. The apex court rejected a review petition challenging its March 2026 verdict, thereby reaffirming its earlier decision.

The court stated that individuals who convert to Christianity are not eligible for SC status. However, it added that the status can be restored if they reconvert to Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism. The Supreme Court also upheld the judgment delivered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in this matter.
