The Supreme Court refused to allow accused Gunigati Ravinder Rao to travel to the United States for medical treatment, observing that medical facilities comparable to those in the US are available in India. Ravinder Rao is facing charges under IPC Sections 120-B and 306 read with 34 in a case registered following a complaint filed on October 12, 2014. Police filed the charge sheet on February 29, 2016, and later issued a non-bailable warrant and lookout notice after he failed to appear for trial.
The court noted that Ravinder Rao allegedly left India for the United States in 2017 by taking advantage of an order suspending the lookout notice issued in 2016. He was arrested at Shamshabad Airport on April 19, 2025, upon his return and was later released on bail. A bench comprising Justices Deepankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma criticized the prolonged delay in the trial, noting that nearly 10 years have passed since the charge sheet was filed and the case still remains at a preliminary stage.
