Strict Measures on H-1B?

The Trump administration is reportedly considering removing the 60-day grace period that allows H-1B visa holders to stay in the United States after losing their jobs. Proposals submitted by the Department of Homeland Security are currently under review by the Office of Management and Budget. If implemented, affected visa holders may be required to leave the country immediately after job loss.

The administration has been working on tightening H-1B visa regulations for some time. After imposing a $100,000 fee on new visas, it is now focusing on eliminating the grace period. Currently, H-1B holders who lose their jobs have 60 days to find new employment or change their visa status. Failure to do so requires them to leave the United States.
