Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to formulate a stringent law to curb the growing menace of food and drug adulteration. He expressed concern that excessive use of chemicals in vegetables, fruits, milk, and other food products is leading to serious health issues among the public. During a review meeting held at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD), he noted that the overuse of fertilizers and pesticides is leaving harmful residues in agricultural produce, which is also affecting exports as several countries are refusing imports.
The Chief Minister pointed out that products are being sold at high prices in the name of organic produce without proper certification systems in place. He instructed officials to study the policies of countries with strong anti-adulteration laws and prepare a comprehensive report. He also suggested setting up a toll-free number to collect public complaints and recommended launching a pilot project in the CURE area to identify gaps before implementing the policy statewide.
