Sonia Gandhi Faces Setback in Delhi Sessions Court

A Delhi sessions court on Monday set aside a magistrate court order that had refused to direct registration of an FIR against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi in a voter-list case. The complaint alleges that Gandhi’s name was included in the electoral roll in 1980, three years before she acquired Indian citizenship in 1983.

The sessions court directed the magistrate to hear the matter afresh and pass a reasoned order after considering the submissions of the complainant and Delhi Police. The court found shortcomings in the earlier order, which had declined to order an FIR. Sonia Gandhi has rejected the allegations, describing the complaint as misconceived and based on unsupported assumptions.
