Norwegian journalist Helle Lyng has claimed that her social media accounts were suspended following online backlash after she attempted to question Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a joint media briefing in Norway. Taking to X, Lyng revealed that she had been unable to access her Instagram account throughout the day before it was eventually suspended. Calling it a “small price to pay for press freedom,” she noted that such an experience was unprecedented in her career and shared a screenshot of the suspension notice.
In a separate update, Lyng informed users that both her Instagram and Facebook accounts—platforms owned by Meta—had been suspended. She expressed concern that she would not be able to respond promptly to messages, especially from Indian users who had been reaching out in large numbers. Hoping for a quick resolution, she tagged Meta in her post and stated that she is awaiting restoration of her accounts.
