Sanjukta Parashar Becomes First Woman to Lead CRPF CoBRA Unit as IG

IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar has been appointed as the Inspector General of the CRPF’s elite CoBRA unit, making her the first woman to lead the specialised force. A 2006-batch IPS officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Parashar has taken over the responsibility from 1996-batch IPS officer Dhanesh Rana. Her appointment marks a significant milestone for women in India’s security forces.

Originally from Assam, Parashar has served in her home state and also worked with the National Investigation Agency (NIA). During her career, she has handled several challenging operations in the dense forests of Assam and areas affected by insurgency. Her experience and tough operational record have earned her the reputation of being the “Iron Lady of Assam”. She completed higher education at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi and secured the 85th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
