Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed serious concern over the increasing pollution levels in the Godavari River after reviewing laboratory reports submitted by the Pollution Control Board (PCB). Water samples collected from the Nalla Channel and the Andhra Paper Mill lagoon areas during his recent inspection reportedly revealed pollution indicators far exceeding permissible limits. The Deputy Chief Minister held an emergency review meeting with district officials and PCB authorities to assess the situation and discuss corrective measures.
Questioning the delay in addressing the issue, Pawan Kalyan asked why officials had failed to take timely action despite the visible deterioration of the river's water quality. He directed the Pollution Control Board to issue show-cause notices to Andhra Paper Mill and the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation. He also ordered disciplinary action against officials found negligent in their duties and instructed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan to ensure that untreated sewage does not enter the Godavari. He further stated that the state government would seek assistance from the Central Government if required for the river's restoration and conservation efforts.
