Pakistani Navy Vessel Collides with Indian Navy Ship in Arabian Sea

A Pakistani Navy vessel collided with an Indian Navy ship in international waters in the Arabian Sea, prompting India to lodge a strong protest. The Ministry of External Affairs said the incident did not cause any major damage but described the conduct of the Pakistani naval units as “unacceptable and unprofessional”.

India summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi over the incident and raised objections over the conduct of the Pakistani naval vessel. The MEA said the action was in direct contravention of Article 10 of the April 1991 India-Pakistan Agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements. The provision requires naval ships and submarines of the two countries to maintain a safe separation while operating in international waters. India also asked Pakistan to ensure that its military units exercise due care and comply with relevant bilateral agreements.
