The Telangana government is preparing to increase liquor prices across the state in a move aimed at boosting revenue collections. According to reports, the revised prices are likely to come into effect after June 2, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day celebrations. Officials are reportedly considering a 10% to 15% hike on all categories of liquor, including regular, medium and premium brands.
Earlier, the government had formed a three-member committee to study revenue enhancement measures and liquor pricing policies. The committee reportedly recommended increasing liquor prices by 25% to 30% based on current market conditions and rates in neighboring states. However, considering possible public opposition, the government is expected to implement a comparatively lower hike. If approved, the revised prices will make beer and IML liquor costlier for consumers across Telangana.
