The central government is reportedly taking steps to make cancer treatment more affordable by regulating trade margins on 137 selected cancer medicines. The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has taken a decision to cap distribution and sales margins at 30%, according to the information provided. The move is expected to reduce the prices of some selected medicines, with reports suggesting that reductions could reach up to 70% in certain cases.
The proposed change could provide financial relief to cancer patients and their families, many of whom face substantial expenses for medicines and long-term treatment. The revised prices are scheduled to come into effect on November 9, 2026. Patients and caregivers should check the official NPPA notification and updated medicine price list to confirm which medicines are covered and their revised prices.
