Narayana Questions EC Over Voter List Revision

CPI leader Narayana questioned the Election Commission’s procedures and safeguards in the name of voter-list revision. Referring to a proverb about a foolish man giving an absurd solution, Narayana asked whether there was any difference between that kind of foolishness and the EC’s actions. He said technical discrepancies in electoral rolls should be corrected, but should not become obstacles to citizens’ voting rights. He also questioned why notices were reportedly being issued even to prominent citizens such as L.K. Advani and S. Jaishankar, and called on the EC to explain the basis for such notices.

Narayana urged the Election Commission to publicly disclose the criteria, evidence and legal basis used for issuing notices. He said every voter should be given a fair opportunity to respond and called for transparent safeguards to prevent wrongful deletions from electoral rolls. According to Narayana, voter-list revision should safeguard the right to vote rather than place it at risk. He further said the EC should remain accountable to the people, Parliament and the Constitution, and demonstrate its independence through transparent action.
