Massive Reduction in Voter Count Expected in Hyderabad Due to Ongoing Voter List Survey

A significant change in the number of voters is expected in the capital city of Hyderabad. Due to the ongoing special comprehensive survey of the voter list, officials estimate that a total of 4 million votes may be removed from the Greater Hyderabad area. The survey is set to conclude tomorrow, and as per the information available until yesterday, there are a total of 11.4 million voters across 28 assembly constituencies within the three districts of the capital. It has become a major discussion point that nearly one-third of these votes are likely to be canceled.

Despite government holidays, booth-level officials (BLOs) to higher authorities will remain on duty on Saturdays and Mondays, clarified GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan. He urged voters who have not yet submitted enumeration forms to do so immediately. Authorities are making swift arrangements to complete the survey at the local level and announce the draft voter list by the 17th of this month.

Although vote removals are affecting almost all constituencies, some areas are witnessing particularly high numbers. For example, Sanathnagar constituency, with a total of 254,030 votes, may see as many as 116,000 votes (45.68%) removed. Similarly, 44.21% of votes in Jubilee Hills, 42.19% in LB Nagar, 40.05% in Uppal, and 40.03% in Maheshwaram are expected to be removed, according to officials. The lowest estimated removal is in Ibrahimpatnam, at 21.43%. It is believed there will be only slight changes in these numbers over the next two days.

Thousands of people from various parts of the country migrate daily to Hyderabad for employment and other needs, settling down and registering as voters there. However, amid the ongoing nationwide voter survey, many registered voters who have voting rights in both their hometowns and Hyderabad prefer to continue voting only in their hometowns. This has led to many enumeration forms not being returned to officials, which is seen as a major reason for the sharp decline in voter numbers in the city.
