An Indian employee of a US based financial firm has claimed that around 80 members of the company’s Indian customer service team were laid off during a five minute Google Meet call. According to the employee’s social media post, the team had been asked to work from home that day for operational reasons. The affected employees were working evening shifts when they received the unexpected meeting invitation.
According to the employee, the shift began at 6:30 pm, and at around 9:30 pm, the entire team was asked to join a Google Meet call. What appeared to be a routine meeting allegedly turned into an announcement that the entire Indian customer service team had been terminated. The employee said the company cited the team’s failure to deliver the expected output as the reason. However, the claims are based on a social media post and have not been independently verified.
