

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the future lies in farming and stressed the need to strengthen farmers through modern and sustainable cultivation practices. He laid the foundation stone for a horticulture research complex, being constructed at a cost of ₹10 crore, at the Horticulture College under Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University in Rajendranagar. He also inaugurated a seed processing plant and visited an exhibition showcasing various vegetables.
The minister said the benefits of research and modern technology must reach farmers, particularly small and marginal farmers. He highlighted Telangana’s progress in oil palm cultivation and said the area under the crop is expected to reach 10 lakh acres within two to three years. He also stressed the need to reduce excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and promote sustainable farming methods. The minister noted that Telangana still faces a significant shortage of vegetables and called for greater local production. He also welcomed the growing interest among software professionals in farming and said proper use of available resources could help India emerge as a leader in agriculture.
