Heavy rainfall has lashed several parts of Maharashtra, with the popular hill station Lonavala in Pune district recording a remarkable 670 mm (67 cm) of rainfall within just 24 hours. Other regions, including Bhira and Tamhini, also witnessed more than 500 mm of rainfall, leading to a sharp rise in river levels and water accumulation across the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as heavy rain persists.
The floodwaters from these regions are flowing through the Bhima River and eventually entering the Krishna River upstream of the Almatti Dam. As a result, the reservoir is currently receiving an inflow of nearly 80,000 cusecs. Officials are closely tracking water levels and have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert amid the possibility of further rainfall.
