Former TTD Chairman and YSR Congress Party leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy has alleged that public funds are being misused in the name of star hotel projects in Tirupati. He questioned how the government could provide concessions for hotel construction on private land. He alleged that permissions were granted to companies including Radisson Blu and Essential and claimed that a GO was issued on the 20th of this month granting permissions for three hotels. Bhumana alleged that CRR Hospitality was given substantial concessions for a star hotel project in Daminedu, including several incentives and free electricity for five years. He questioned the company’s previous experience in developing star hotels and demanded that the government clarify its financial standing. He also alleged that sufficient information about the company was not available online. Raising questions over land allocation, he alleged that 21 acres in Daminedu were allotted at Rs 90 lakh per acre and questioned how a company operating from a small residential address was granted permission for a major hotel project.
Bhumana further demanded that the government explain how State Board approvals were granted and identify those behind the alleged irregularities. He alleged that valuable land in the same area was allotted at relatively low prices for commercial projects. He also pointed to the growing number of tourists visiting Tirupati and the rapid increase in homestays, questioning the need for additional star hotels when accommodation facilities constructed at a cost of around Rs 600 crore are reportedly set to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister. Bhumana demanded that the government disclose the rationale behind the hotel permissions and clarify whether any larger conspiracy was involved. He said the YSR Congress Party strongly opposes the alleged irregularities and urged the government to respond immediately and place all relevant details in the public domain.
