SriLankan Airlines has appointed Vipul Mishra, an Indian national from Kanpur, as its interim Chief Executive Officer. Mishra is already serving as the Head of Engineering at SriLankan Airlines. The airline said his extensive experience in aircraft engineering and the aviation sector, along with more than two decades of leadership experience, were key factors behind his appointment. He will take charge of the airline’s operations in the interim capacity.
Mishra’s appointment has attracted attention in the regional aviation sector, particularly because of his Indian background. While Indian carriers such as Air India and IndiGo have appointed foreign nationals to senior leadership positions at various times, the decision by SriLankan Airlines to appoint an Indian executive as its interim CEO is being viewed as noteworthy. His technical expertise and long experience in aviation are expected to support the airline in its current leadership phase.
