Union Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has announced major reforms in India Post, aiming to transform the postal system with faster and more efficient services. As part of the initiative, 24-hour fast delivery services will be introduced, benefiting nearly 30 crore people across the country. The move is expected to significantly improve parcel delivery speed and reliability.
The government is investing Rs. 5,000 crore under the IT 2.0 initiative to modernize the system. Features such as SMS tracking, OTP verification and geo-tagging will be implemented to enhance transparency and customer experience. Officials stated that 97 – 98 percent of deliveries will be completed within 24 to 48 hours. With affordable pricing and new options like book now–pay later, India Post is set to compete strongly with private courier services.
