Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has launched an Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign as part of a Special Monsoon Drive aimed at preventing mosquito-borne diseases in Hyderabad. The campaign will be conducted from August 11 to 21 under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s Entomology Department. The initiative focuses on creating awareness among citizens and strengthening preventive measures against diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.
As part of the drive, officials will conduct door-to-door awareness campaigns, identify mosquito-breeding sites and undertake anti-larval operations. Extensive fogging will also be carried out across GHMC limits, while awareness material will be distributed and programmes will be conducted in schools. Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged citizens to take personal responsibility for keeping their homes and surroundings clean and to follow the ‘Friday–Dry Day’ practice by removing stagnant water every Friday. GHMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Amar Singh Naik said the IEC campaign would educate people about mosquito control and preventive measures, particularly after recent rains that have resulted in water stagnation in some areas. He urged residents to immediately remove stagnant water and report mosquito-breeding spots.
