On the occasion of National Handloom Day, former minister and BRS Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao extended his greetings to handloom weavers. He praised their skill, hard work, and dedication, stating that they play a vital role in showcasing India's culture and traditions to the world. He urged everyone to stand by the handloom community and support the development and welfare of weavers.
Harish Rao alleged that the condition of handloom workers has worsened after the Congress government came to power. He said the previous KCR government had strengthened the sector through schemes such as Nethanna Ku Cheyutha, yarn subsidy, Bathukamma sarees, and Worker to Owner. He claimed the discontinuation of these initiatives had pushed weavers into hardship, leading to migration, debt, and financial distress. He appealed to the government to revive the handloom sector and ensure better support for weavers.
