UN Secretary-General António Guterres said that yoga, which has ancient Indian origins, has become a global practice benefiting millions of people across all religions. Speaking at the 12th International Yoga Day event held at the UN headquarters by India’s Permanent Mission, he was joined by diplomats, officials, and yoga practitioners. He also noted India’s upcoming non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2028–29.
In Beijing, more than a thousand yoga enthusiasts participated in an event organized at the Indian Embassy, with a majority of participants being Chinese nationals. Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswami said the large turnout reflects yoga’s growing global popularity and expressed happiness over its rising practice in China.
