Dr. Priya Selvaraj, granddaughter of legendary actor Gemini Ganesan, has achieved a remarkable milestone by scaling Mount Everest at the age of 52. A renowned gynecologist and director of a leading hospital in Chennai, she became the first Indian woman above the age of 50 to summit two peaks higher than 8,000 meters within seven months. Speaking to the media in Chennai, Dr. Priya said that climbing Everest was a challenging dream that she accomplished through determination, discipline, and spiritual commitment.
She revealed that her Everest journey began in 2021, followed by four years of dedicated training. Her preparation included climbing stairs at home and the hospital, as well as walking on bridges to build endurance. Dr. Priya successfully reached the summit in just eight days, climbing for nearly 12 to 13 hours daily. She also shared a tense moment during her descent when she slipped but escaped danger thanks to her safety rope. Before Everest, she had conquered Mount Manaslu, which stands at 8,163 meters. Crediting her family's support for her success, she encouraged younger generations to reduce screen time, stay active, and maintain both physical and mental fitness.
