A shocking incident has come to light from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, where a government doctor has been accused of deliberately rebreaking the leg of a 14 year old mentally challenged girl. The girl's mother, Reshma, alleged that the doctor acted out of anger over an alleged payment dispute after treating her daughter.
According to the family, the girl suffered a fracture in her right leg 45 days ago and was admitted to a government hospital. Hospital staff initially informed them that the surgery would cost ₹25,000. After intervention by the district administration, free treatment was reportedly ordered. However, the family claims that ₹8,000 was still collected and that they were pressured to pay the remaining amount.
The mother alleged that during a follow-up visit, the doctor forcefully bent the girl's knee and re-fractured the operated bone. A subsequent X-ray reportedly confirmed the injury. After failing to get a response from hospital authorities, Reshma approached the district collector seeking justice. Muzaffarnagar Chief Medical Officer Sunil Tiwatia stated that a detailed inquiry would be conducted and strict action would be taken if any wrongdoing is proven.
