Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the state’s preparedness for Cyclone Arnab at his camp office in Amaravati. He sought details from officials about the cyclone’s current position, expected impact across various districts and the possibility of heavy rainfall. Officials informed him that the cyclone was centred around 167 kilometres from Yanam, near Kakinada, and had been moving towards the coast at a speed of 23 kilometres per hour over the preceding six hours.
The Chief Minister also held a teleconference with district collectors in areas likely to be affected by the cyclone. He directed officials to take all necessary measures to prevent loss of life and property, and to shift residents from low-lying areas to safer locations wherever required. He stressed that rehabilitation centres should have adequate supplies of food and drinking water for people seeking shelter.
Naidu instructed officials to ensure that electricity supply was restored as quickly as possible if disrupted by the cyclone. He also directed them to clear fallen trees and damaged hoardings promptly to prevent disruptions to road traffic. The Chief Minister emphasised the need for coordinated action among departments to minimise inconvenience to residents and respond swiftly to emerging situations.
He further asked district administrations to make full use of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams already deployed in vulnerable areas. Collectors were instructed to continuously monitor ground-level conditions through district control rooms and coordinate relief and emergency response measures as the cyclone approaches.
