Childhood Friend of PM Modi Seeks His Intervention in Land Dispute

Asgar Ali Vohra, 81, has approached his childhood friend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking a resolution to a land dispute that has continued for nearly 37 years. Vohra, who studied with Modi in Vadnagar, Gujarat, recently met the Prime Minister and sought his intervention in the long-pending dispute in Maharashtra. According to national media reports, he also requested a probe by a central investigative agency into the matter.

Vohra, a resident of Mira Road, said he purchased around 2,810 square metres of land in Navghar, in the Bhayandar East area of Mumbai, through a registered agreement in 1989. He alleged that in 2011, Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Construction took possession of the property using allegedly forged documents and divided the land between the two firms. An FIR was registered in 2015, but the case remains pending in court. After approaching revenue, municipal and police authorities over the years without a resolution, Vohra met Modi. The Prime Minister reportedly assured him of a positive response. Following the Prime Minister’s Office intervention, municipal authorities have scheduled a special hearing on September 16.
