The Union government has approved a major defence project worth approximately ₹40,000 crore to build eight next-generation stealth corvettes for the Indian Navy. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has given its approval to the proposal, marking a significant step towards strengthening India's naval capabilities. The advanced warships are expected to incorporate modern stealth features and advanced combat systems.
The project aims to enhance the Indian Navy's operational strength and improve its ability to safeguard the country's maritime interests. The new vessels are expected to strengthen surveillance, combat readiness and security operations across strategically important maritime regions. The initiative is part of India's broader efforts to modernise its naval fleet and reinforce maritime security amid evolving regional and global challenges.
