Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has announced good news for workers in the state by approving a major hike in minimum wages based on the recommendations of a Cabinet sub-committee. The decision is expected to benefit around 1.11 crore workers across Telangana.
The government has categorized workers into unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled groups, and divided the state into three wage zones: municipal corporations, municipalities, and rural areas. Under the revised structure, minimum wages in Zone-1 have been significantly increased. The decision will come into effect from June 1. The CM also emphasized the importance of skill development, stating that trained workers can earn up to ₹2 lakh abroad. He added that AI may affect white-collar jobs but not blue-collar jobs, and highlighted global demand for skilled Indian workers. He also made strong political remarks against opposition parties during his address.
