Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil has clarified that the Godavari–Cauvery river linking project will move forward only after Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka reach a consensus. He made the statement during a video conference of the National Water Development Agency (NWDA), following discussions held during the Tungabhadra Dam gate inauguration attended by the Chief Ministers of the three states.
During the meeting, Andhra Pradesh officials proposed implementing the river-linking project through the Polavaram–Banakacherla project. However, the Union Minister stressed that no decision would be taken without agreement among the concerned states. Karnataka raised objections over the proposed allocation of 45 TMC each to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while receiving only 16 TMC. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, however, welcomed the river-linking proposal.
