Bombay High Court Angered by FDA’s Actions.. Questions Suspension of Licences

The Bombay High Court has criticised the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for suspending the licences of five eateries operating on the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) premises. The court observed that sealing the establishments when 88% of the food items were found to comply with food safety norms was not an appropriate approach. It urged officials to consider the actual circumstances before taking stringent action.

A bench comprising Justice Ravindra Ghuge and Justice Gautam Ankhad expressed displeasure that the FDA had allegedly ignored the court’s earlier observations on similar matters. During recent inspections, officials found issues including unhygienic conditions and third-party operations, besides food safety-related violations. After the MCA approached the court, the FDA withdrew its orders suspending the licences of the five eateries.
