Centre Raises Rice Procurement Quota for Telangana

The Central Government has approved an additional procurement of 8 lakh metric tonnes of rice (equivalent to 12 lakh metric tonnes of paddy) from Telangana for the Kharif Marketing Season 2025–26. The decision increases the state's total rice procurement target from 35 lakh metric tonnes to 43 lakh metric tonnes. The announcement was welcomed, stating that the move was made in the interest of Telangana farmers following requests from BJP MPs and MLAs.

It was stated that a delegation had met Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on July 8 seeking an increase in the procurement target due to higher paddy production in the state. Gratitude was expressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Minister for approving the request. The Telangana Government was also urged to utilize the enhanced quota effectively, complete procurement without causing inconvenience to farmers, and ensure timely delivery of rice to the Food Corporation of India (FCI), while also clearing pending commitments from previous procurement seasons.
