CDSCO Warning on Pakistani Fairness Creams

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has issued a public health warning over two fairness creams claimed to be made in Pakistan. The regulator identified ‘Goree Beauty Cream’ and ‘Chandni Whitening Cream’ as unauthorized cosmetic products that have not been registered for import and sale in India. Testing found that the products contained heavy metals above the specified limits. CDSCO advised consumers not to purchase these products and not to use them if they have already been purchased, warning that excessive heavy metals may pose health risks, including toxic effects.

The manufacture and import of cosmetics in India are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the Cosmetics Rules, 2020. CDSCO advised consumers to carefully check product labels before purchasing creams and other cosmetics, including the licence number, batch number, manufacturing date and expiry date. For imported products, consumers should also verify the relevant registration number. The regulator advised people to avoid products without clear authorization and manufacturing details and to remain particularly cautious about creams making claims of skin whitening.
