Birthday flex banners put up for Dr. Preethi Reddy, daughter-in-law of former minister and BRS MLA Malla Reddy, in several areas of Hyderabad’s Quthbullapur constituency have triggered a political controversy. Some BRS workers objected to the absence of photographs of party leaders K Chandrashekar Rao and KT Rama Rao, along with local MLA KP Vivekanand and MLC Shambipur Raju, and reportedly tore down flexes and cut-outs in areas including Suchitra, Chintal, Jeedimetla and IDPL.
Responding to the incident, Preethi Reddy said her birthday celebration was not a party programme. She stated that if it had been a political event, photographs of KCR, KTR and other senior leaders would have been included as per party protocol. She said the flexes were put up by college and hospital staff out of affection for her, and added that while the banners could be torn down, her morale and the affection shown by people could not be.
