The Bombay High Court has strongly criticized the police for forcibly entering a woman’s bedroom without following due legal procedure and seizing her mobile phone. The court observed that such actions violate an individual’s right to privacy and dignity. It directed the Maharashtra government to pay ₹10,000 as compensation to the victim, emphasizing that the right to privacy is a fundamental right guaranteed to every citizen.
Hearing a petition filed by a 26-year-old woman from Nagpur, the court found that the police had failed to adhere to established legal protocols during the investigation. It clearly stated that law enforcement authorities do not have the power to violate rules under the pretext of investigation. The judgment reinforces the importance of safeguarding citizens’ rights and holding authorities accountable for procedural lapses.
