The Bihar government has announced strict action against the performance and circulation of songs containing obscene content, double meanings, or caste-insensitive remarks at public gatherings and celebrations. The move comes amid growing concerns that such performances are negatively impacting social harmony and encouraging inappropriate behavior. The state's Department of Art, Culture and Youth Affairs has directed authorities to closely monitor such activities and take necessary legal action against violators.
In an official communication sent to district administrations and police authorities, the government expressed concern that objectionable songs are increasingly being performed under the guise of folk culture. Officials noted that such content often promotes vulgarity, social discord, and hostility instead of fostering communal harmony. State authorities also emphasized that women and children are particularly affected by such performances. The government has instructed law enforcement agencies to take strict action not only against performers but also against those responsible for broadcasting or promoting such content in public spaces.
