The voter list verification process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is underway in Andhra Pradesh. Officials have reportedly issued notices to around 43 lakh voters across the state as part of the exercise. So far, verification proceedings involving more than 16 lakh voters have been completed. Following scrutiny, around 8,700 voters have been identified as ineligible for failing to produce the required documents.
Meanwhile, authorities have decided to retain more than 13 lakh voters in the final electoral roll after their eligibility was established during the verification process. The scrutiny of the remaining notices is also continuing. Officials have emphasised that the exercise is aimed at ensuring accuracy in the electoral rolls while ensuring that all eligible voters are retained in the final list.
