T-72, T-90 Tanks Still Crucial Despite Rise of Drones and Missiles: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said battle tanks continue to hold immense importance and remain crucial for ground warfare. He made the remarks on Thursday while laying the foundation stone for a repair and maintenance facility for T-series battle tanks at the Vehicle Factory Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The Centre has allocated ₹472 crore for the project.

The Defence Minister made several key observations on the occasion.“The Indian Army is one of the most powerful armed forces in the world. T-72 and T-90 tanks are extremely important for ground operations. They stand like a wall of steel along the borders, helping thwart enemy attacks and boosting the morale of security forces deployed there,” Rajnath Singh said.

He noted that although drones and missiles have assumed a greater role in modern warfare, the need for tanks has not diminished. He stressed the importance of enhancing the capabilities of the Indian armed forces across all domains.Singh also said that regular maintenance is essential to ensure that tanks continue to perform effectively.
