Andhra Pradesh Launches Special Mission With Kumki Elephants to Curb Human-Elephant Conflict

The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department has taken special measures to address the growing instances of human-elephant conflict in the state. As part of the initiative, six trained Kumki elephants have been deployed in the Palamaner and Parvathipuram regions. The elephants were brought in through an agreement with the Karnataka Forest Department to assist officials in managing wild elephant movements and protecting agricultural areas.

According to forest officials, the deployment of Kumki elephants has helped reduce crop damage by around 70–80%. The trained elephants are being used as part of the department’s efforts to control conflict situations and protect both local communities and wildlife. Officials are also making dedicated arrangements to provide the Kumki elephants with adequate food and water during their deployment.
